Event's Details
Join us for an evening of beautiful chamber music to support the people of Vieques, Puerto Rico! Vieques is recovering from the destruction hurricane Maria caused and its people are beginning to rebuild their island. Vieques has been without power now for almost four months. Supplies and financial support are still desperately needed.Vieques is a very small island of 9000 people near the main island of Puerto Rico. Since Vieques is so remote there is concern that funds donated directly to the main island of Puerto Rico (which are already limited) are not be reaching the efforts in Vieques.
This will be an outstanding concert with a varied program. Musicians from Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, faculty from Peabody Institute, and the Lyric Brass Quintet will be performing and many of the performers are friends and colleagues of mine from my days as a violinist. All of the musicians are donating their time for the performance. It will be free and open to the public, but free will offerings will be accepted. All proceeds will benefit the foundation, ViequesLove, which acted as first response on the ground with supplies and aid in Vieques even before the National Guard, FEMA, and the Coast Guard arrived with help. Donations can be made directly at https://www.gofundme.com/viequeslove.
Once the immediate situation in Vieques has stabilized, ViequesLove will be focusing their funds on rebuilding Vieques in the strongest and most eco-conscious way possible so that Vieques can better withstand future natural disasters and so that residents can resume their normal lives and jobs once again.
Works by Gaubert, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Ewald, and Ewazen are on the program. Find the photos of the full program in the "discussion" area of this event post. Please join us!! Vieques se levanta!!
