What do the clouds have to do with birds or birding?
What drew me to the murrelets drew me to the clouds: These natural wonders were both fascinating, mysterious, difficult to study, and not given the attention they deserved. And I knew nothing about them.
When I began my study of clouds, I first turned to The Art of Bird Identification, by ace birder and author Pete Dunne. This slim volume offers a straightforward approach to putting a name to the bird—approach perfectly suitable for learning the names of the confusing array of ever-changing clouds. Birding and cloudspotting have much in common—and birders will be happy to know their time spent outdoors and looking up gives them a leg up on the clouds!
